Collate

Collate is your organization’s intelligent data platform — a single place where everyone, from analysts to executives, can find, understand, trust, and act on data. Think of it as a smart catalog that knows everything about your company’s data: where it lives, what it means, how reliable it is, and who’s responsible for it. Then layer on an AI assistant that can answer your questions, build charts, write documentation, and automate repetitive tasks — all in plain English.

The Problem Collate Solves

Every organization has the same pain:
  • Data is scattered across dozens of systems — databases, dashboards, spreadsheets, pipelines.
  • Nobody knows which dataset is the “right” one to use.
  • Getting a simple answer requires a data analyst, a multi-day wait, and three rounds of back-and-forth.
  • Governance work — tagging assets, writing documentation, running quality checks — is manual and never quite catches up.
Collate fixes this. It connects to all your data sources, builds a living map of your data, and puts AI to work so your team spends less time hunting and more time deciding.

What You Can Do

Find Any Data, Instantly

Search across every database, dashboard, pipeline, and report in one place. Every asset shows you who owns it, how reliable it is, where it came from, and who’s using it. No more asking around. See Data Discovery.

Ask Questions and Get Answers — No SQL Required

Just type your question in plain English. Collate AI finds the right data, runs the analysis, and returns a chart or summary — complete with the logic behind it so you can trust the result. See AI Analytics.

Put Governance on Autopilot

AI agents run in the background to write table descriptions, classify sensitive data, assign business-criticality tiers, and flag quality issues. Your team reviews and approves — no manual cataloging marathon. See AI Automations.

Build AI Assistants for Your Team

Use AI Studio to create custom AI agents tailored to your workflows — a compliance auditor, a PII reviewer, a documentation writer. No coding required. See AI Studio.

Connect Your AI Tools to Your Catalog

If your team uses AI tools like Claude, Cursor, or VS Code with AI features, the Collate MCP Server lets those tools read directly from your data catalog — giving external AI assistants the context they need for accurate answers. See MCP Server.

Key Concepts

Data Assets

Everything in your data ecosystem — tables, dashboards, pipelines, ML models, topics, and containers — is a data asset in Collate. Each asset has an owner, tags, descriptions, lineage connections, and quality scores attached to it.

The Catalog

The catalog is Collate’s living map of all your data assets. It updates automatically as ingestion runs pull fresh metadata from your connected sources. Search, browse, and filter across every source from a single place.

Ingestion Runners

Ingestion is how metadata flows into Collate. Depending on your plan:
  • Collate SaaS Ingestion — connectors run inside Collate’s infrastructure and pull metadata over the public network. No setup required.
  • Hybrid Runner — a Kubernetes-based agent you deploy inside your own network. It pushes metadata to Collate without exposing your internal environment.
  • Local Ingestion Agent — a lightweight Docker-based agent for development environments and Free Tier users.

AI Agents

AI agents are purpose-built workers that run inside AI Studio to automate metadata tasks — writing descriptions, classifying sensitive data, assigning ownership, and flagging quality issues. Each agent runs against a defined scope and returns suggestions for your team to review and approve.

Personas

A persona is a role-based configuration that controls what a user sees in Collate — which navigation sections appear, what widgets show on their home page, and which features are surfaced. Admins configure personas in Settings > Personas; users can switch between any persona they are assigned.

AI Credits

AI credits are consumed when AI-powered features run — Collate AI Chat queries, agent executions, automated classification, and more. Your plan includes a shared credit pool visible in Settings > Billing & AI Credits.
